BC Football

This morning we headed to the BC football game to enjoy the beautiful weather (65 degrees and sunny) and cheer our team on for their first win of the season.

Although we didn't witness a win (the team is 0-3 for the first time in a LONG time) we did have a chance to visit with cousin Emily! Emily is my cousin from the Ecker side of the family that is now attending BC as a freshman majoring in nursing. We are VERY excited to have her here and have enjoyed seeing her quite frequently over the past month.

When Mikey asked for his lovey early on in the game we didn't think he would make it. Fortunate for us Mikey has inherited an infamous Ecker trait----being able to sleep ANYWHERE. (This is a very useful trait to have--especially during the college years.) BC was driving down the field late in the 4th quarter. They were trailing by 1. The place was going crazy. And Mikey slept. He woke up when the kicker missed the field goal, hitting the goal post for the second time in the game.

By the way----funny story about the lovey. Mikey needs a lovey when he goes to sleep. If he is sleepy and wants some down time, he will also request the lovey (or get it himself). On Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week I was cleaning out his backpack from Eva's house. Instead the usual soaking wet lovey in a plastic bag, I found the lovey in his backpack DRY AS A BONE. TWO DAYS IN A ROW. Obviously Eva must have put it in the dryer, right?!?! Nope! Eva admitted that she forgot to give Mikey the lovey for his nap but he never protested and immediately went to sleep both days! Clearly Eva possess some type of super power to have Mikey give up the lovey.......He is sleeping in a cot AND without a lovey. I do not recognize this Mikey one bit!

"Daddy's Work"

Today we went to "Daddy's work" so Mommy and Mikey could have their teeth cleaned. First Mikey sat with Daddy and watched Mommy. He thought it was so funny when Mommy spit!

When it was Mikey's turn he laid down on Mommy so Daddy could look in his mouth. Mikey opened his mouth big and wide so Daddy could clean his teeth with the instruments and then brush his teeth with the electric toothbrush. He was very cooperative with his mouth---his legs were in constant kicking motion on my shins.....Ouch! When he was done the first thing Mikey did was lean over and "spit" into the sink! So cute.

Mikey left with a new toothbrush and three stickers. The "Cars" sticker was his favorite.

Our first dentist visit was a success!

First Day of "Eva's House": Year 2

Today this sleepy boy started his second year at Eva's House. Mikey will go two days a week---Tuesday and Wednesday---while Mommy works. Due to the weather, his "first day of school" picture had to be taken in the car :(

Eva reported that Mikey went on the potty three times on his first day---peeing once! He now sleeps on a cot in the dining room during nap time and does fine. He has the most fun playing ball with his friends Miles and Jonah. Mikey tells them "throw" and "catch" and they follow. On Wednesdays a woman named Ronnie comes to do music with the children. What fun!

Labor Day

For Labor Day weekend Mimi, Grandpa and Uncle Timmy came to Waltham to visit. Saturday we went out to breakfast and then attended the Boston College/Northwestern game at Alumni Stadium. Mikey had a great time clapping and cheering for BC. Initially he was frustrated because (we think) he wanted to go on the field as he kept pointing, grunting and motioning with his body in that direction. He sat the whole game, even though it was VERY hot. What a trooper.

Mikey loved to clap for the team and band

Mikey and I also got to visit with cousin Emily who is now a freshman at Boston College! We are SUPER excited to have a family member/babysitter so close! Hooray for Emily!

On Saturday night, everyone went to the pool before dinner to cool off and relax. Mikey had a great time swimming back and forth to Grandpa and Daddy. He showed off all of his swimming skills including blowing bubbles in the water and "3, 2, 1, BLASTOFF!".

Mimi made angel food cupcakes with whipped cream topping and sprinkles. Obviously...it was a hit!

Mikey loves to play with his Uncle "Mimmy"

Sunday afternoon we made a trip to Sandy Beach in Cohasset to walk around before getting dinner at the Summer Shack. Since Grandpa was on-call on Monday, they had to leave tonight.

It was a short but sweet visit! Thanks for coming everyone!

I'm 2 1/2!

Mikey,

How are you 2 1/2 already?!?!? Where has the time gone? Daddy and I are really enjoying this stage that you are in now (Ok, we have enjoyed every stage---but this one is REALLY fun!).

Here are just some of those fun things you are doing now:

* You are TALKING! Every day we hear "Mama, Mama, MAAAAMMMMAAAA!" and "Daddy, Daddy, DAAAAAAAADDY!" at least a thousand times a day! You say "thank you" when you hand things to other people, which I find super cute. Other favorite phrases are "I did it", "I got it", "I am ALL done", "bedder" (better), "wadder" (water), "run run", "Green! GO!" (while we are driving in the car at a traffic light--you especially loved to do that to Grandpa Bob!), "I pooped!" (with this high pitched ending on the pooped);

* You inconsistently use the potty but overall it is a good experience. You have done both pee-pee and poopie on the potty multiple days in a row. You will not tell me when you have to go and I am not really pushing you.....yet. I ask you if you have to go and if you say "no", I don't force the issue;

* You LOVE your crib. You can play for over a half an hour in the morning and when you wake up from nap. In the morning I will lay in bed and listen to you have full conversations with Elmo and your doggie over the monitor. When I go in to get you, you lay down and tell me "no". Sometimes I have to leave and come back to get you in a few minutes because you are resistive;

* You go to bed around 8:00-8:30 and wake up around 7:00. Since we have been home from New Jersey you have been napping for 2 or more hours. You are still attached to all 7 loveys that we rotate throughout the week;

* You will consistently eat hot dogs (your favorite), chicken nuggets and turkey pepperoni as your primary sources of meat. You continue to love carbohydrates, dairy and fruit. Veggie preferences change on the day (currently you are obsessed with cucumbers and grape tomatoes);

* You have begun to engage in pretend play with your food and stuffed animals now. Last week, Elmo accompanied us to the gym, grocery store and to Eva's. You talk to Elmo as if Elmo were a baby, changing the pitch of your voice to a higher level. Very adorable. You "cook" food for Daddy, Mama and Elmo almost daily. You are still obsessed with cars, trucks and trains and now have also branched into the world of tools (thanks to "Handy Manny");

* Another huge interest now is SPORTS. This makes Mommy and Daddy so happy. You see baseball, football, soccer or hockey on TV (or in a magazine/newspaper) you can correctly identify it and want to see "more". You can spot a Boston Bruins car decal/banner/jersey/t-shirt from a mile away. There is nothing wrong with your vision. We are looking forward to taking you to the BC football game this weekend! You are going to LOVE it!

Happy Half Birthday, little man! We love you lots!

xoxo
