PLEASE!

I taught Mikey "please" today in sign language. He rubs his entire chest and belly when he does it! CUTEST THING EVER.

Mikey has been signing A LOT this week. When he wakes up the first thing he does is sign "eat", putting his little fingers to his mouth. He also does this when he is thirsty. I think he is going through a growth spurt because lately he signs this ALL THE TIME. He signs "more" very consistently and now "please".

Today we were at the pool with a bunch of "kids" in their early 20s. They all had their lunch coolers filled with Coors Light poolside. Mikey kept pointing to the group and then signing "eat". He wanted to drink the beer!! I told him that "beer is not a Mikey drink" and he would start to fuss. Too funny....

I will work on getting the "please" on video. I cannot stress how cute it is.....

Going Up?

Mikey, like any other typical toddler, loves to push buttons. On vacation he was in his glory as we needed to use the elevator while we stayed in the hotel. He would literally RUN to the elevator, push the button and then clap for himself. At the Nationals stadium, he was lifted up in his stroller (by his Grandpa's) to activate the buttons as we used the elevator in the parking garage!

Tomato Day video

Like I said in the previous post, Michael got me a video camera for my birthday. I'm practicing how to load these videos up. We'll start with this one--Mikey softening the tomatoes with Daddy and Grandpa in the kitchen.

Road Trip!

This year our vacation was a road trip to visit family and friends along the East coast. We were busy the whole time and had a blast!

Saturday, August 14: Our first stop was to Columbia, Maryland to visit the Ecker family and celebrate my Grandma Ruth's 86th birthday. We were able to catch up with our family members and even meet the newest additions! What a fun day! Here is the group shot of everyone that was able to make it:

For those of you not very familiar with my father's side of the family---my grandparents produced 4 sons and 2 daughters. There are 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way! With so many people to coordinate, it is almost impossible to get everyone together on one day/weekend. Gatherings like this help you to appreciate the time with your family because you never know the next time you'll see everyone!

Sunday, August 15: Our second stop was to Washington, D.C. to meet up with Mom and Dad Scialabba and Mark. Mark was able to get us amazing seats in the Diamond Club level at the Nationals Stadium. The Nats won 5-3 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. We were able to see Stephen Strasburg pitch, which was very cool to see in person. Mikey had a great time visiting with everyone by playing the "pass the baby" game. He was mesmerized by the jumbotron and all the people surrounding him. He didn't enjoy the fireworks during the star spangled banner or when a home run was hit. The most impressive thing Mikey did was sleep during 2 innings of the game---he was snoring!! Pure exhaustion did him in! Mom and Dad Ecker and Mandy and Scott headed back to New Jersey after the game and we stayed in Washington for another few days to sight see and visit with Mark. That night we went to Ray's the Steaks for a wonderful dinner. I need to note that they had the most AMAZING crab bisque soup EVER. Yum.

Monday, August 16: We spent the very HOT day in Washington D.C., Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria, VA. We started the day taking a tour of one of the Masonic Temples in Washington D.C. Mikey was such a trooper. From there we drove around Georgetown (passed the Georgetown Cupcake store that is featured on TLC) and then headed to Old Town Alexandria. We walked around Alexandria peering in all the cute shops and stopped for lunch. I somehow didn't take a single picture on this day!!

Tuesday, August 17: Mike and I decided that we wanted to take Mikey to the Baltimore Aquarium on our way back to New Jersey. Mom and Dad Scialabba, Mike and I drove to Baltimore that morning. The place was pretty busy and dark, so Mikey wasn't totally a fan. When the crowds dwindled down and he was able to walk around, he had a really great time. We saw lots of varieties of fish, a special jelly fish exhibit and even caught the dolphin show! What a fun day! From there, Mom and Dad Scialabba drove back to New York and we drove to New Jersey.

This picture below I took with our camera on the "aquarium" setting. Sometimes I really impress myself.....

Wednesday, August 18: My 31st birthday! After being in the car for multiple days and due to the rainy weather, we spent the morning lounging around the house and Mikey caught up on his sleep. That afternoon we took a trip to a nearby playground. Boy does Mikey love the swing!! Michael and I went to dinner and a movie that night while Grandma and Grandpa babysat. This was our first "date" together in MONTHS. It was nice to sit, eat, and talk without interruptions (even though most of the time was spent talking about Mr. Mikey!!). We saw Eat, Pray, Love after dinner. Movie was good, book was better.

My birthday gift from Michael and Mikey was a handheld video camera. My project this weekend is to upload the videos to the computer and the blog for a different perspective!! Thanks babe! I LOVE my gift!

Thursday, August 19: Michael went to the Bronx, NY to see his beloved Yankees. He met his Dad, brother Timmy and Coach LaBombard at the game. Mommy and Mikey stayed behind, as we thought Mikey could only handle one baseball game in a week.

Friday, August 20: Erin Kenworthy's Wedding Day! (Sister of my BFF Lauren Kenworthy Tolska from high school). Erin and Sean Casey carpooled with Michael and I to Skytop Lodge in the Poconos for the wedding. It was great to spend quality time with Erin and Sean in the car and then during the wedding. Everything was beautiful----the location, the weather, the people. It was truly a special day. Our favorite 4 year old, Kaylie, was one of the best flower girls I had ever seen! Here are some pictue highlights:

Saturday, August 21: TOMATO DAY! Every year in August my mother's family gets together for the annual tomato sauce experience! The tomatoes are delivered the day before so that bright and early on Saturday morning we can start the process. We wash the tomatoes, cut them, soften them on the stove, run them through the machine to separate the skins and seeds, and finally can them for storage. We produced 247 jars of sauce this year from 600 pounds of tomatoes. For one day it is A LOT of work but we are able to reap the benefits all year long! There is nothing like the smell of the tomato sauce cooking on the stove in the winter time---bringing back memories of summer. Mikey spent two hours of the day hanging out with Jimmy Casey (and Erin and Sean) at the Freehold Raceway Mall. He had lunch, walked around and went for a ride on the merry-go-round. After waking up from his nap, Mikey had an ice pop at the kitchen table. You will notice the jars of sauce cooling behind him! And then of course the last picture is the obligatory birthday cake to celebrate my arrival on tomato day on Saturday, August 18, 1979!

Sick little boy....

No cute new pictures to post this week as Mikey has a nasty cold. He has been weepy and very sensitive. I've been keeping him inside letting him rest and relax since we have a busy week coming up with travels to Maryland, Washington D.C. and New Jersey.

I have been so good during his 17 months of life to not place him in front of the TV. Most of the time we are out or playing, so during the day it is never on. Now that he has been sick and lethargic, I have caved and put on an episode of Sesame Street once a day. Yesterday, after breakfast, Mikey walked over to the couch, handed me the remote and crawled up on the couch to assume his "watching tv position". Ugh. I hope I didn't start a new routine......How does this kid learn so fast???

Jimmy comes to Beantown.....

We had our first visitors of the summer come this past weekend.....the Casey family! They made the trip up from New Jersey on Saturday and we spent 2 wonderful days together! The boys had such a blast getting into trouble and making big messes!! Jimmy was sick earlier in the week and we were so glad he was better and able to travel!!

Saturday we spent the day here at the apartment. We took a walk, played outside and went for ice cream that night! Erin and I were also very excited to give the boys a bath together in the big tub (a first for Mikey)! The boys were exhausted and didn't have as much fun as their Mommies did!!

On Sunday we drove to Boston and checked out the Children's Museum. Since none of us had been there before, we were nervous that the boys would be too little for the trip to be worthwhile. Our fears were put to rest as soon as we walked in the door! We explored all three floors of the museum and had so much fun!! I think the boys enjoyed the playspace on the 2nd floor the best. We had lunch at the Barking Crab restaurant and then headed back to Waltham for naps.

Mikey and Jimmy have really gotten a chance to play together a lot this summer and I hope that they continue the fun for many years to come! We all had a blast! Thank you Casey family!!! Miss you already!!! xoxoxo

Daddy can SING!

Daddy was an athlete in high school---playing baseball and football. One thing I did not know about your Daddy was his musical talent. Since you have been born, Daddy sings to you every day. And not just the typical children's songs like "Twinkle Twinkle" or the ABC's. Nope....your Daddy sings his own songs to you with familiar tunes!! Every day the song changes and you love hearing him sing to you! Keep the music coming, Daddy! We love it as much as we love you! xoxo
